your first death, ten years before the real one, your body ironed
flat on the barn wood floor; tincture of piss darkening the denim
around your zipper, wires tangled like kudzu vines, spilling
from the fuse box. Electricity to stop your heart, two-hundred
volts sent you reeling—the light that found its way from your body
through an imperfect path—piercing earth like a railroad spike.
